“Nu Virgos” (knows as V.I.A. «Gra» in Ukraine, Russia and other ex-USSR territories) is a popular Russian musical group consisting of the talented, sexy and beautiful girls. The band was produced by well-known Constantin Meladze. Еhe first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “Viagra” is a famous drug that increases male potency. The history of the popular girls-band began on September 3, 2000, when Nu Virgos hit the charts of Russia and Ukraine with debut video “Popytka No. 5” (“Attempt No. 5”), which instantly took the top positions.
The history of the band is extensive and multifaceted, it includes many events that influenced the fate of this musical group in one way or another.
After that, Nu Virgos has continued to steadily move up, self-improving and improving the quality of their work, releasing more and more new songs and albums, unusual video clips. They also participated in various television programs and shoots for magazines.
Each subsequent action of the group is not similar to the previous one, it has a certain palette of emotions and feelings, thoughts and impressions inherent exclusively in Nu Virgos and allowing them to differ from most other post-Soviet pop groups working in a similar musical genre.
However, the girls have not reached the unprecedented heights immediately. As you know, the path to the success is never smooth, there are many flaws and turns of fate on it, requiring many efforts. It is worth noting that in the history of the group there are no failures on a global scale, only changes in the lineup, which led to a “change of generations” and left their unique mark on the life of the singing group.
Initially, critics considered Nu Virgos “a one-hit group” and prophesied its short glory. But a new dance composition “Obnimi menya” (“Hold me closer”) intensified interest around the team. Girls began to be invited to interviews and concerts. By the end of 2000, their repertoire consisted of seven songs. The first solo concert of the group took place on the stage of the Ice Palace in Dnepropetrovsk on December 20. It was attended by 4 thousand spectators.
August 31, 2001 was very significant in the history of the group. They signed a contract with Sony Music to release five albums. This was a great achievement. If the well-known company decided to conclude a serious contract with a group created quite recently, it only proved once more that Nu Virgos was predicted a great future. At the end of the year, the group received several music awards.
Music
Nu Virgos was originally conceived by producers as a singing group exploiting sexuality and erotica. Costumes, images of vocalists, provocative choreography and clips, erotic photo shoots were criticized, but they responded to the plan.
The provocative and outrageous style of the band was not welcomed in all countries. In Belarus, the video for the song “Biology” was banned, considering it too sexy. In Taiwan and Indonesia, the ban was imposed on the video “Stop! Stop! Stop! ”, when performing in Indonesia, the girls were forced to wear closed trouser suits. In Israel, Orthodox Jews rebelled after watching the exciting Nu Virgos members on the central TV channel.
The hits of the band are written in the direction of pop music and meet the requirements of popular culture. This genre of music corresponds to the simplicity of the instrumental part, rhythm, and emphasis on vocals.
Nu Virgos became the first group in the post-Soviet space, openly exploiting sexuality.
